Council updates  |  19 Jul 2019

Christchurch City Council is meeting on Thursday, 25 July. The main items on the agenda for the public part of the meeting are:

  • A report from the Social, Community Development and Housing Committee which recommends the Council agree to the permanent installation of The Godwits public artwork on the road reserve next to the South Brighton bridge.
  • A report from the Infrastructure, Transport and Environment Committee which recommends the Council proceed with 20 smaller projects focused on improving connections between major cycleways and the city, cycle parking and safety for people on bikes.
  • A report which recommends the Council makes a $100,000 grant to Christchurch City Mission from the Community Resilience Partnership Fund for a  multi-agency approach to begging and rough sleeping. The report also recommends the Council make a grant of $55,000 from the fund to the St Albans Residents Association for year one of its community organiser initiative, and a further grant of $55,000 for the second year, subject to a satisfactory monitoring report.
  • A report updating the Council on the process for identifying effective mechanisms and incentives for central city housing development.
