A fly-through video has been released showing how Main North Road will look once additional bus priority measures are introduced.

Citycare has begun work on installing northbound bus lanes on Main North Road between Winston Avenue and Sawyers Arms Road.

The new northbound bus lanes are aimed at improving the reliability of travel times for public transport up and down Main North Road.

There is already a southbound bus lane on Main North Road between Mary Street and Homer St that operates in the morning peak.  As part of the new bus priority measures, this lane will start operating in the afternoons as well.

Citycare will also be making layout changes to the entrance of Northlands Shopping Centre and installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Main North Road and Grassmere Street.

The work, which is budgeted to cost about $2.5 million, is expected to take six months to complete.

A drop-in session where local residents and businesses can come along and ask questions about the project will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, 14 January at the Papanui Community Board room (entrance off Restell Street) between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
