A daytime Family Festival and a Summer Nights concert starting at dusk will be held in Victoria Square over the weekend of 12th/13th March.

Both are new additions to Christchurch City Council’s summer events calendar and have been designed with adults, youths, children and families all in mind.

“Unfortunately we had to cancel our New Year’s Eve celebrations and Kite Day so we really wanted to offer some fun outdoor events specifically for young people and families,” says Christchurch City Council Events and Arts Manager Lucy Blackmore.

Summer Nights will be held from 6pm – 10pm on Saturday 12 March with an exciting line-up of local artists set to perform in a carnival-like setting.

The square will be festooned with lights and with local vendors on hand offering delicious food and drink options, so “expect a lively evening of music and fun,” says Ms Blackmore.

Artists from a range of music genres from electronic to rock, pop and hip hop will entertain audiences throughout the evening.

Acts include DJ GETSET with H Kaa, The Hootź, ASHY, Emma Dilemma, Big Sima and Dolphin Friendly.

The following day, Sunday 13 March there’s a free Family Festival with fun and activity for the whole whanau. Festivities start at midday and run right through until 5pm.

Award-winning children’s entertainer Music with Michal, youth bands and a talent contest in partnership with The Hits radio station are some of the activities lined up for the day.

“We’ve catered for families of all ages from the littlies right through to teenagers,” says Ms Blackmore.

“Victoria Square is wonderful venue for gatherings like this and we hope to have lots of people coming along to enjoy a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.”

Under the Orange traffic light alert level attendees aged 12 and over will be required to provide proof of vaccination on entry.
