Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre’s leaking roof and air conditioning system are going to be fixed as part of a $1.2 million project beginning later this week.

“The roof has been leaking so over the next few months we’ll have contractors replacing it,’’ says Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation, Sports and Events Nigel Cox.

“As part of this work the contractors will also be installing new insulation in the roof to improve the building’s energy efficiency.’’

Mr Cox says the facility will stay open throughout the scheduled repairs and the disruption to users should be minimal.

“We are taking the opportunity to also repair the ageing air conditioning system and there may be temporary loss in the gym, group fitness room and spin studio. Temporary air-conditioning units will be utilised in these areas and the team will keep users informed.’’

The repair work is expected to be completed by mid May.
