A weekend for foodies, runners, or art and music lovers, along with a pool party for dogs and a fun day for families – you will be spoiled for choice.

Christchurch Food Show

Sample tasy treats and see top chefs in action at The Christchurch Food Show this weekend.

Head to the Street Food Alley, Healthy Hub, Artisan Village, Deli Collective or Brewers’ Lane. You can also step into the Cooking Theatre. Check out the website and book you tickets online.

Pooch Pool Party

Bring your fur friend to Waltham Summer Pool for a pool ‘pawty’ on Saturday.

Small and medium-sized dogs can paddle into the fun from 10am to noon while large dogs can lap up the scene from 1pm to 3pm. Owners will need to have full control of their dogs. Entry costs $3.50, with all proceeds going to the SPCA.

Christchurch Marathon

City streets will be packed with runners and walkers on Sunday for the ASB Christchurch Marathon.

Thousands have signed up for the event, which includes a marathon, half-marathon and 10km run, along with Kids Mara’Fun races. The races will start and finish at the Christchurch Town Hall, with the routes taking in Hagley Park. Enter online.

Meanwhile, a more sedate walk to raise funds for Dementia Canterbury’s work in the community will be held at Ngā Puna Wai on Sunday morning. Enter online. 

Family Day Out on Gloucester Green

Head to Gloucester Green this weekend for a fun Family Day Out. Enjoy a range of amusements, rides and bouncy castles, along with food stands and market stalls. Tickets cost up to $15, with bookings online

Comedy on the Avon

Wander along to the Antigua Boat Sheds to enjoy Comedy on the Avon on Saturday. Bring a rug, picnic or some deckchairs, and settle down on the riverbank for an entertaining hour of free entertainment staged on a boat from 2pm.

The Single Fin Mingle surfing festival

Join The Single Fin Mingle in Sumner, an annual festival celebrating traditional longboard surfing and the intertwining culture of music, film and art. Many of the best longboarders are exected to roll in for the four-day festival, featuring surfing films and plenty of music. Tū Manawa multisport have-a-go day

Sample a range of sport at the Tū Manawa multisport have-a-go day on Sunday from noon to 4pm. Hosted by the Christchurch Netball Centre, along with Mainland Football, Origin Sport and the Cheapskates Skate Skool, the day offers youngsters  aged from five to 18  the chance to try out netball, ki-o-rahi, futsal and skateboarding for free. Outdoor Movie Night  Silverstream, Kaiapoi 

For those living north of the city, enjoy an Outdoor Movie Night in Silverstream, Kaiapoi.

The screen lights up with The Greatest Showman at 7.30pm on Saturday.

Selwyn Sounds

You may still be able to pick up a ticket to Selwyn Sounds, featuring a top Kiwi line-up on Saturday in Lincoln.  Tickets are available online.

Broadway, Barbershop & Brass

Sit back and enjoy Broadway, Barbershop & Brass  presented by Christchurch City Chorus and featuring Woolston Brass  at the McCombs Performing Art Centre at Cashmere High School on Saturday. Book your spot online. 

Christchurch Art Show

Thousands of artworks by hundreds of artists will be on display at the Christchurch Art Show at the Air Force Museum in Wigram this weekend. Show day tickets cost $5 online or $10 at the door. To find out more, go to the Art Show website.

You can also visit the Art in the Park Exhibition in the Kiosk in the Botanic Gardens, featuring the work of three local artists.

Echoes of the past: Musical soirée celebrating Kate Sheppard

Listen to Kate Sheppard’s musical repertoire  performed by Christchurch’s Schola Cantorum  in a Victorian-style parlour soirée on Saturday afternoon. Echoes of the past are shared via songs sung in the Sheppard home more than 120 years ago.

Learn more about her life in Ōtautahi Christchurch in the late 1800s and explore the newly transformed rear space of Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House, the elegant home and gardens. Book online for one of the two concerts.
