Council updates  |  13 Feb 2023

Voters in the Innes ward have four days left to vote for someone to represent them on the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board.

Christchurch City Council Electoral Officer Jo Daly says that all enrolled voters in the Innes ward should have received their by-election voting papers by now.

“Having your say on who'll be your voice at the Community Board table is as easy as reading about the candidates, ticking your preferred candidate, and returning the completed voting form to us.”

The candidates are:

  • Mike Davidson (For a Safer, Greener Innes)
  • Moazzem Hossain
  • Ali Jones (Independent)
  • Harrison McEvoy (Independent)
  • Garry Neale (Independent)
  • Mahlon Saumalu (Independent)
  • Mark Wilson (Independent Voice for Innes)

You can view their profiles here. The vacancy was created after the successful candidate in the 2022 local elections, Shreejana Chhetri, resigned.

“You can vote right up until noon on Friday 17 February, but it's a good idea not to leave it until the last minute. To be on the safe side, make sure you post your vote to us in the supplied pre-paid envelope by the close of business on Tuesday 14 February. You can also deliver your vote by hand to certain facilities.”

There are vote bins available at:

  • Civic Offices on Hereford Street
  • Papanui Library and Service Centre
  • Redwood Library
  • Shirley Library and Service Centre
  • Tūranga
  • Kohinga St Albans Community Centre
  • Shirley Community Trust Macfarlane Park Neighbourhood Centre.

Ms Daly says eligible voters who have not received voting papers in the mail can still take part in the by-election by requesting a special vote. Contact the Electoral Team at 03 941 8581 or elections@ccc.govt.nz.
