A deep clean will be carried out at the Bus Interchange in central Christchurch because the Ministry of Health has identified it as a location of interest.

It is advising anyone who was at the interchange between 2.15 and 2.45pm on Wednesday, 20 October to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for 14 days. If symptoms develop, people should get a test and stay at home until they receive a negative test result and until 24 hours after their symptoms resolve.

“We are doing a deep clean of the Bus Interchange out of an abundance of precaution,’’ says Christchurch City Council Head of Facilities, Property and Planning Bruce Rendall.

“We will be closing the Bus Interchange from 8pm so we can do the deep clean overnight. During this time people should use the superstop on Manchester Street. Bus services will operate as normal from the Bus Interchange over the weekend.’’

Environment Canterbury is working with the Ministry of Health to support contract tracing. Further information on this will be published on the Ministry of Health’s locations of interest website.
