Christchurch City Libraries members can now use their library cards to access thousands of the world’s best films and documentaries for free online.
For the first time, library members can use on-demand streaming service Kanopy, an international platform that provides easy access to about 17,000 titles – including some of New Zealand’s most high-rating movies.
Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says Kanopy is a “game changer”, providing a portal to some of the finest films and documentaries, along with an eclectic mix of learning resources and content for children.
“Kanopy offers a carefully curated collection of fine films, award-winning documentaries, festival favourites, rare works, classics and independent and world titles,” Ms Robertson says.
“Children can also access Kanopy Kids, which has parental controls to limit content to age-appropriate levels,” she says.
“The Kanopy film library complements our focus on cultural values and commitment to diversity, opening up library services to an even wider section of the community.
“Library members can simply sign up to begin streaming these films and programmes instantly.”
Card holders need their library card number and pin, along with a password, to set up a Kanopy account to access the video streaming service and view up to 10 films each month.
Kanopy can be streamed from a computer, television, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV or Chromecast.
