Don’t be surprised to hear whoops and squeals echoing around the Port Hills this summer – the Christchurch Adventure Park’s four-stage zip line tours are up and running and proving teeth-grittingly popular!
Christchurch Adventure Park Communications Director Anne Newman said the four zip line tours were fully booked each day and ideal for the thrill seekers amongst us.
“The zip line goes in four stages and is a dual line, so you can zip line with a friend and experience the thrill at the same time. The lines range in length from 400 metres to 1100 metres, and our line across the valley of the Cashmere forest is 180 metres above the forest floor, so that’s plenty of height to get the heart pumping!”
The Christchurch Adventure Park has now been open one month and Ms Newman said thousands of mountain bikers had already taken to the tracks.
“We’ve been delighted with how things have kicked off. We’ve had thousands through the gates, from experienced riders to international visitors who are sight-seeing and just coming to ride the chairlift up the hill, as well as plenty of locals just popping in to have a look around and a coffee.
“We’ve been absolutely thrilled with how it's gone and everyone that’s come into the Park have been buzzing when they have left. There is a truly special atmosphere in the park.”
The Park held its first Ladies and Men’s Nights this week, with 60 ladies booked in for an evening group lesson. The nights would be held every Wednesday evening until the end of March, with Men’s nights every Thursday.
“We’ve been really delighted with the demand for these sessions and I think it’s proves there is something for everyone at the park, from beginner riders to the advanced. We’re also hosting the Prologue day for the Pioneer Mountain Bike event on February 5, and the New Zealand Open Gravity Canterbury downhill race on February 11.”
The Christchurch Adventure Park is nestled amongst 900 acres of forested land in the Port Hills – bringing with it several kilometres of mountain bike routes, over two kilometres of zip lines through the forest, sight-seeing, a café/bar, and high speed chairlift taking bikers and sightseers up the hill for panoramic views of Christchurch.
The $24 million development is a unique and innovative public-private funded initiative. It sees a partnership between the New Zealand Government, Christchurch City Council’s Development Christchurch Ltd, private investors from New Zealand and overseas coming together to support this initiative.
