After five years as Christchurch City Council Chief Executive, Dr Karleen Edwards has decided she will not reapply for the position.

Dr Edwards says she has enjoyed “a wonderful five years’’ leading the organisation and is proud of what has been achieved for the city.

“I feel we are now into a new phase of the regeneration,’’ she says. “The time is right for me personally to step aside and let someone else build on the progress made to date.’’

Because Dr Edwards’ fixed-term contract expires in June, the Council has already advertised for a new chief executive.
