Christchurch readers have hit a major milestone with one million eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines borrowed from OverDrive’s Libby app in 2023.
It comes following another milestone in October when the all-time total of Christchurch City Libraries items downloaded from Libby hit five million.
Libby is a library reading app where users can borrow a range of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines from the library catalogue straight to their devices for free. All that is needed is a library membership and PIN.
The Grieving Brain by Mary-Frances O’Connor was the one millionth item downloaded, while Julia Gets a Life by Lynne Barett-Lee was item five million.
“We’re so proud we’ve become part of Libby’s million club and show the badge on our website with honour,” Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says.
“Everyone uses the library differently and likes reading in different ways, whether it be physical books, audiobooks, magazines, or the digital format on devices. So, Libby offers yet another way people can conveniently access our catalogue and get into a good read.”
Ms Robertson says the Libby app is becoming more and more popular with library users.
“What better time to download the app and have a look at what it has to offer than over the summer break,” she says.
“And don’t worry, if you prefer browsing the shelves in person and borrowing a physical book, your local library has a lot to offer.”
