The Christchurch Gondola has been showing off some of the best panoramic views in town for three decades.
Originally opening as the Mt Cavendish Gondola on 24 November 1992, planning for the complex had started 20 years before construction even began and once complete, 16,000 native tussocks were returned to the site.
The 1km cable car takes passengers up the Port Hills to see views across Christchurch to the Southern Alps as well as Lyttelton Harbour and Banks Peninsula.
It was purchased by local owners and operators The Wood Scenic Line in 2005, and has undergone various challenges including the Christchurch earthquakes and the impact of Covid-19.
“We are thrilled to have reached this significant milestone, especially after the many challenges along with way. Our team have deeply appreciated the ongoing support shown to us, particularly by our local visitors, throughout the decades. We look forward to continuing to share this special place with our guests in the future," Christchurch Attractions Chief Executive Sue Sullivan says.
To celebrate 30 years of operation, the Christchurch Gondola is offering discounted $30 adult entry on Thursday 24 November, along with special offers in the onsite café and gift store from 10am until 4pm.
