Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Library and Community Centre will close temporarily next week while repairs are carried out in the building’s entry foyer.
The library and community centre will close at 6pm on Thursday, 18 April and reopen at 9am on Monday, 29 April.
The floor in the entry foyer will be repaired while the building is closed.
Christchurch City Council Community Libraries Manager Erica Rankin says that “we’re sorry for any inconvenience the closure may cause as this is a well-used library and community centre”.
“However, we’re expecting that there will be a lot of dust and noise while this work is being carried out and it will be safer and more pleasant for everyone if we temporarily close the library and community centre.”
She says the closure is timed to coincide with the Easter and Anzac Day public holidays to reduce the impact on customers as the library would have been closed for three days over this period anyway.
“We’ve spoken to all the groups who use the community centre and their bookings have either been cancelled or arrangements made for them to use another facility while Ōrauwhata is closed,” Mrs Rankin says.
Library items can still be returned to Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Library and Community Centre while the building is closed.
The closest alternative libraries are Papanui Library in Langdons Road and Redwood Library in Main North Road.
