If your thoughts are already drifting to the post-Christmas clean-up, remember your wheelie bins will be emptied one day later than normal over the Christmas/New Year period.

Most wheelie bins will be emptied a day later than usual over Christmas and New Year.

“People whose bins are normally collected on a Monday will have them emptied as usual, but everyone else will  have their bins emptied the day following their normal collection day,’’ says Christchurch City Council Solid Waste Manager Ross Trotter.

“Because Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Tuesday this year, the Tuesday collection will move to Wednesday, the Wednesday collection will move to Thursday, the Thursday collection will move to Friday, and the Friday collection will move to Saturday,’’ Mr Trotter says.

All kerbside collections will take place on the normal days from the week beginning Monday 7 January.

“We pushed out everyone’s collection day by a day last Christmas and New Year and it worked really well – we had no issues – so we are sticking with the same formula this time around,’’ Mr Trotter says.

“If you want to get a reminder about when your bins need to go out, the best thing you can do is download our free wheelie bin app from either the Apple AppStore or GooglePlay.
