Got what it takes to run a busy café?
Christchurch City Council is looking for an operator to lease the new cafe within the Matatiki: Hornby Centre, which is currently under construction in Kyle Park.
Council Head of Recreation, Sports and Events Nigel Cox says they are looking for operators with a focus on excellent customer service.
“Matatiki will be a busy community facility in the heart of Christchurch’s growing southwest suburbs. It will be a fantastic asset for the city, and a café where people can grab a bite to eat, meet friends, and enjoy a community atmosphere will be a key part of that,” says Mr Cox.
Once complete, Matatiki: Hornby Centre will include a library, customer service area and a multi-purpose lane pool, family spa pool, hydrotherapy pool, and a toddlers’ wet play area. The 4000m2 facility will also include a creative activities room, and multi-purpose rooms for meetings and quiet study.
The café will be located in the reception area of the centre and will include an area for indoor and outdoor customer seating.
Anyone interested in the opportunity to run the café can download the Request for Proposal documents via the Government Electronic Tender Service website. Proposals must be submitted by midday Wednesday 14 June 2023.
Matatiki is due to open in early 2024.
“The facility is really starting to take shape. There has been significant progress on the library wing and the pool hall is also coming together rapidly. The pools have been installed and the roof is well underway," says Mr Cox.
