A new mural by Los Angeles-based artist Dcypher is proving an eye-catching addition to Lyttelton’s Oxford Street Reserve.
The mural incorporates native plants and birds, Maori design motifs, and a Lyttelton inspired urban scene featuring a skateboarder.
Dcypher, also known as Guy Ellis, painted the mural over two weeks with help from other members of the DTR Crew –Wongi, Ikarus, and Jacob Yikes.
Dcypher hails from Christchurch but is currently based in Los Angeles where he works full-time as a muralist.
Another of his murals – a colourful Kiwiana themed mural – can be seen on the wall of the Wharenui Recreation Centre in Riccarton.
His latest mural is a key element of a $375,000 upgrade of the Oxford Street Reserve, which includes extensive playground landscaping, repairs to the park’s earthquake damaged heritage walls, and the skate park being rebuilt.
