The design is locked in, the location is set and work is on track for Linwood to get its new $22 million pool complex by the end of 2021.

The concept designs for the new pool complex within Linwood Park were approved by the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board this morning.

Linwood residents can look forward to getting a multi-use 25-metre lane pool boasting a deep-water area with a dedicated area for “bombing”, a family spa pool, learn to swim pool, and a pool for toddlers and water deck.

Community meeting rooms and a kitchen are also included in the design. The outdoor community space includes a gathering area, picnic tables, tennis and multi-use courts, cycle stands, parking and plenty of open areas for all ages to enjoy.

“We now have the ball rolling on detailed design, and people travelling on Linwood Avenue will start seeing the first signs of work get under way in 2020, Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board Chairperson Sally Buck says.

“There’s been a buzz about this project for a while now, but it’s moved to another level now that people can visualise exactly how it will look, feel and function. This pool complex is going to be a fixture in many, many lives for generations to come, and it’s just become something tangible.

“The Linwood and Woolston communities have been with us every step of the way on this journey, so for many people this has been a chance to see their own wish-list come to life. Getting this project through these early stages has been a hugely rewarding experience,” Ms Buck says.

“The goodwill out there means that there’s a lot of support and momentum, and the team is on track to get the Linwood Pool open in late 2021. The message we’re getting now is that the community just wants to start using it as soon as possible.”

The next step is to prepare tender documentation and begin the process of appointing a main contractor to complete the design and build.
