New drone footage has captured the progress being made on the Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub.

The sports hub is a long-term project that combines regional and community facilities for four sports – athletics, tennis, hockey and rugby league – on a 32-hectare section of Ngā Puna Wai reserve in southwest Christchurch.

“Last year’s wet winter and spring caused some delays to the earthworks programme but the dry summer has allowed the contractors working at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub to make good progress,’’ says Christchurch City Council Project Director Scott Bennett.

“The Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub is going to be a great asset for Christchurch and it is exciting to see the new sporting facilities take shape,’’ he says.

The athletics track and hockey turfs will be the first of the planned facilities to open, in May and July 2018 respectively, followed by the outdoor tennis courts, next summer. The community playing fields and the rugby league fields will be ready for the 2019 winter season.
