How have street changes in Ōtautahi Christchurch benefited our city, and what challenges were involved?

The upcoming Christchurch Conversations event will be exploring the potential of streets to transform our neighbourhoods and improve their liveability and sustainability.

Presented by Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City Making, the Our Neighbourhoods Need Better Streets event will be held on Tuesday 22 October from 6 – 7.30pm at Tūranga’s TSB Space on Level 1.

A speakers panel will delve into topics including how to strike the balance between people, place and transport, and how to cater to the needs and practices of different people, organisations and businesses within the neighbourhood.

Hear from a variety of speakers including Transport Engineer Director ViaStrada Glen Koorey, Westburn School Principal Susan Jennison, Poet Jessica Arcus, Abley Associate Director Transportation Ann-Marie Head, University of Canterbury Professor of School of Earth and Environment Simon Kingham and The Press Editor Kamala Hayman who will chair the panel discussion.

Find out about the community participation and design levers involved, as well as the cultural, environmental, political and financial factors that influence the design of our streets.

Learn more about what we need to do to make safe, social and healthy streets – ones that are kind to people and planet – a reality in our neighbourhoods.

This is a free public event, but bookings are required.

The Christchurch Conversations 2024 programme is supported by the Christchurch City Council through the Sustainability Fund and has the curatorial support of Amanda Yates from AUT He Puna Ora Regenerative Action Lab.
