Individuals, business and organisations still have time to give feedback on two new draft bylaws for Christchurch City Council’s drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services.

The Council is proposing to replace its current Water Supply, Wastewater and Stormwater Bylaw 2014 with two separate bylaws – the Draft Water Supply and Wastewater Bylaw, and the Draft Stormwater and Land Drainage Bylaw.

The proposed replacement bylaws are needed to comply with regulatory changes the Council must comply with.

The changes will help the Council meet more stringent standards for drinking water safety and stormwater discharge consent conditions and work to improve the quality of stormwater channelled back into the environment.

As part of its bylaw review the Council is proposing to introduce an Industrial Stormwater Discharge Licence.

Depending on the type of activity, this would require some industrial premises to obtain a licence from the Council to continue discharging stormwater.

“We want to encourage improvements to how industrial premises manage stormwater discharge,” says Council Head of Three Waters Helen Beaumont

“There will be costs associated with the system so we’d like to hear from industrial business operators if they have questions about the proposals."

An information session focussed on the proposed new Industrial Stormwater Discharge Licence will be held on Tuesday 1 February at the Civic Offices, Hereford Street, Christchurch between 10am – 12pm, with a presentation from 10.05am (COVID-19 restrictions permitting). Bookings are essential – click here to book.

“Take a look at our ‘Have your say’ webpage for more information and please make a submission if you have any feedback or concerns,” adds Ms Beaumont.
