Ever wondered where your recycling ends up after it has been collected?

Find out at the upcoming Parkhouse Road EcoSort facility open day on Saturday 1 March from 9am to 1pm.

“This free, annual event is the best opportunity to get up close to the collection truck and machinery and view the facility to understand how the recycling process works,” Resource Recovery Manager Dr Alec McNeil said.

“You will also be able to ask any questions about what happens to your kerbside recycling and speak to the experts on site on other ways you can reduce your waste.”

The open day is family friendly with activities, games and giveaways.

“Christchurch residents are really good at recycling and don’t want to see contaminated trucks ending up in landfill,” Dr McNeil said.

“So, this event is a great way to highlight the importance of putting the right items in your yellow bin.”

Christchurch City Council cohosts the open day with EcoCentral which operates the facility at Parkhouse Road.

EcoCentral also runs the EcoShop on Blenheim Road and the three Ecodrop transfer stations around Christchurch including Resource Recovery Centres which accept a wide range of household items for free.

Parking is available on Michelle Road with parking onsite for mobility permit holders.
