South Island Figure Skating Championships

The Olympics might be over but you can still go along and watch our very own top skaters in action with all grades competing in free skating, pair skating and ice dancing events.

Make sure you dress warmly as a hat, jacket, scarf, gloves and a cushion to sit on will make you much more comfortable.  There are two sessions at Alpine Ice Sports Centre on Saturday: 12noon - 1.30pm and 4.30pm - 7pm then another on Sunday 10am – 1.30pm. Entry is a gold coin.

Twelfth Night at the Isaac Theatre Royal

For the past 17 years Top Dog Theatre has performed Open Air Summer Shakespeare in Mona Vale Gardens. This year they've moved indoors with a new production of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy Twelfth Night.

Featuring a live band with dancers and singers, the whirlwind tale of romance, mistaken identities, drunken songs and farcical fights will tickle the boards of the Isaac Theatre Royal this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7.30pm. Tickets from $17 available from Ticketek.

Grand National Festival of Racing

Get your winter glad-rags on for an exciting day of thoroughbred racing at Riccarton Park Racecourse on Saturday. Racing starts at 11.30am, there's Winter Fashion in the Field at 2.30pm and the big race of the day is the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase - plus there’s live music in the birdcage. Tickets are $25.

Strike for Climate Tree Planting

Help plant native trees along the Styx River, a valuable habitat for birds, fish and other wildlife. Christchurch City Council Park Rangers will be there along with members of School Strike for Climate Ōtautahi. Bring gumboots and gloves, weather-appropriate clothing and a shovel if you have one.

Meet at 51 Lower Styx Road on Sunday, 10.30am-12.30pm.

Canterbury Rugby League Club Grand Finals

Catch four grand finals all on the same day as the Rugby League season reaches its climax. The Premiere Grade Grand Final kicks off at 3pm with other matches starting at 11am, 12.30 and 1pm.

All the action happen at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub on Sunday from 11am – 4.30pm. Covered stands are available in the event of rain. Adult entry costs $10.

Christchurch Choral Festival

Enjoy a glorious hour of singing from a diverse range of choirs including the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, the Jazzamatazz Choir, Medbury School Choristers, the Christchurch Boys’ Choir and combined inner-city church choirs.

This free concert is on Sunday 3pm-4pm at St Mary’s Pro Cathedral.
