Journey up to the top floor of Tūranga and unleash your creativity.

The fourth floor of the library has been given the name Auahatanga/Creativity because it is full of spaces where you can get creative and try out new technologies.

There is a lab of computers where you can access software such as the Adobe Creative Suite and an audio visual studio where you can record and edit your own music and videos.

The floor also has some virtual reality headsets which people will be able to use at scheduled times to try out a range of virtual reality experiences.

For those who like to get creative and crafty, there is a production studio with sewing machines, an embroidery machine, 3D pens and printers, vinyl and craft cutters, and access to a laser cutter.

Helen Clear, the fourth floor’s team leader, is excited about giving people the opportunity to be creative and try out new technologies.

“I can’t wait to see the community engage with the space and make full use of the amazing equipment and creative software available,’’ she says. “I want people to walk away from the floor with a sense of possibility and excitement.’’

For those in search of reading material, the fourth floor will be home to a large fiction collection, biographies and graphic novels, as well as large print and talking books. Music CDs and the World Languages Collection will also be housed there.

“One of the special features of the fourth floor is the natural light that pours in from the atrium and the wonderful views you get of the city. I think people are going to love coming up there,’’ Ms Clear says.

Tūranga’s usual weekday opening hours will be from 9am to 8pm, although the ground floor will be open from 8am. At weekends Tūranga will be open from 10am to 5pm.
