Forget the traditional roses and chocolates for your Valentine, today is Library Lovers' day!

Public Libraries of New Zealand choose Valentine's Day to honour and celebrate libraries, librarians, bookworms and library lovers.

"We’d love to see people take a few minutes to pop into their local library and enjoy what is on offer. It’s also a great chance to encourage friends or families who aren’t library users to sign up to the service.

"Our library network in Christchurch carries more than one million books and we have almost 200,000 members, so we're a busy service. We love seeing new members and encouraging those that don't usually access libraries to take a look and see what is on offer."

Libraries across New Zealand ran more than 23,000 events last year and helped with more than four million inquiries.
