Recruitment for around 50 roles at the new Matatiki Hornby Centre is in full swing.

Christchurch City Council’s new 4000m2 community centre will include a customer services hub, a pool facility, and the new Hornby Library, which is relocating from Goulding Avenue.

Council Head of Recreation, Sports and Events Nigel Cox says there are a range of roles available, including part-time and full-time positions, for when the centre opens in early 2024.

“Over the next few months, we’ll be looking for lifeguards, swim education instructors, three library assistants and a shelver, as well as customer service representatives.”

“Matatiki is going to be a fantastic new addition to the Council’s network of community facilities. We’re looking for people who want to provide a great customer experience for every visitor,” says Mr Cox.

Council staff are holding information and application support sessions throughout the month of October for anyone interested in working at Matatiki. The full schedule is available at ccc.govt.nz/matatikihornbycentre.

“Come along and have a chat with our team about Matatiki and all the roles on offer. We have dedicated sessions for the pool, and libraries coming up. People can also come along to the application support sessions to get some help with online applications, updating CVs, and interview tips,” says Mr Cox.

Application support sessions will be held at Te Hapua: Halswell Centre on 5 October from 9.30am – 11.30am, and 12 October from 4pm – 6pm.

Team Leader of the new Hornby Library Alan Seaton says staff will be shifting from the existing Hornby Library, but there are several new roles that need to be filled.

An open day for those interested in working at the Matatiki Library is being held on 12 October at Upper Riccarton Library, 10am – 11am and 4pm – 5pm.

“It’s great to be at the stage where we are recruiting for team members at Matatiki,” says Mr Seaton.

“The site is looking amazing, and we can’t wait to welcome the community into their new library next year.”

Matatiki is under construction and is due to open in early 2024.

“The worksite is a hive of activity. The building is now completely enclosed, with painting underway in the library and flooring soon to follow. In the pool complex, we’re preparing for the water services to go in, and outside the asphalt for the carpark is being laid,” says Mr Cox.
