King tides are causing some flooding in some low-lying streets around the Heathcote and Avon rivers. Check here for the latest information.

Saturday 9.10am:

This morning's high tide has passed without any major flooding. All roads are open including Clarendon and Richardson Terraces.

Gauges shows this morning's high tide around the Estuary was 12cm higher than the record-breaking high tide last July that caused extensive flooding around the Heathcote River.

Forecasters are predicting this evening’s high tide will be lower than this morning’s but it is still likely to cause flooding in some streets.

Council contractors will be out inspecting low-lying roads around the rivers this evening and will put temporary closures in place as necessary.

Both Clarendon Terrace and Richardson Terrace will be closed ahead of tonight’s high tide and will remain closed until after tomorrow morning’s high tide has peaked.

If you are driving tonight and come across any flooding on the roads, try and avoid driving through it if possible. If you have to drive through, please keep your speed down so you don’t push floodwater onto people’s properties.

Friday 10.25am:

Council Land Drainage Manager  Keith Davison advises that It appears that there is some flood water that has made its way onto properties and in some cases garages and outbuildings may have been affected.

"We’ve been talking to people in the affected areas and have been out and done some site visits. At this stage we have no indications the water has got into any homes."

He added that the temporary bunds that have been built have been effective in holding back the king tide. "These have reduced the impact and severity of any surface flooding in Southshore and have done their job well,'' Mr Davison says.

The peak flooding has passed and the flood waters are starting to recede.
