A $100,000 loan from Christchurch City Council will help a growing bowling club expand its greens.

The loan for the Halswell Bowling Club was approved today by the Council’s Sustainability and Community Resilience Committee.

“The Halswell Bowling Club is in a growing area of Christchurch and it wants to develop an additional bowling green on bare land next to its current facility so it can accommodate more players,’’ says Committee Chair Councillor Sara Templeton.

“To help finance the development, the club has applied to our Community Organisation Loan Scheme for a $100,000 loan. We have approved the loan because Halswell and the south-west of Christchurch are experiencing significant growth and that is putting pressure on the area’s sports facilities.

“The loan will enable the club to develop a new World Bowls performance standard green and associated facilities, which means that it will be able to welcome more people into the club,’’ Cr Templeton says.

The club will have five years to repay the loan and will be charged 2 per cent interest per annum.

The Community Organisation Loan Scheme helps organisations to develop or improve new or existing facilities or undertake major projects. There is $985,055 in existing loans under the scheme.
