The weather forecasters are predicting a wet weekend for Christchurch but there's plenty of indoor activities on to keep you and your whānau entertained.

Armageddon is back

The Christchurch Armageddon Expo is back with two days of gaming, cosplay, anime, collectables, comics, celebrity guests, movies, television and more.

There's a Mini Christchurch Brick show display, trading Card tournaments and even a fire chilli eating contest. 

The expo is being held at the Christchurch Arena and is open from 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday. You can buy tickets online.

Christchurch Conversations

Head to Tūranga on Sunday afternoon and take part in Christchurch Conversations, which will explore the best ways of cutting carbon in your day-to-day travel. Listen to locals as they talk about whether its worth getting an EV, how you can e-bike with kids and other topics related to moving around a 21st century.

The event has been organised by Te Putahi Christchurch Centre for Architecture and City-Making and is on from 1 to 4pm.

An early evening of jazz

Warm up the weekend with an early evening of jazz at the Old Stone House. The Mike Bickers Boptet is performing on Sunday night from 5pm to 7pm, with tickets $20.  

A tribute to Neil Diamond

The Isaac Theatre Royal will be rocking to the tunes of the legendary Neil Diamond on Saturday night as it plays host to The Sweet Caroline Tour: A Tribute to Neil Diamond. 

Step back into the glory days of music with this live tribute concert, featuring Sweet Caroline, Cherry Cherry, Red Red Wine, Crunchy Granola Suite, Shilo, Heartlight, Forever In Blue Jeans, Girl You’ll Be a Woman Soon and more.

NZSO - Open Doors

On Saturday the NZSO is throwing open the doors of the Christchurch Town Hall and inviting you to join them for a variety of free events for all ages, included masterclasses and a jam session for brass players of all levels.

From 10am to 11.30am the orchestra is inviting children to come in and explore the Instrument Petting Zoo. They will be able to get up close with various instruments and musicians of the orchestra. This will be followed by a performance of NZSO Storytime live - a seleciton of Kiwi children's book favourites accompanied live by orchestra members.

Kids Make-A-Book workshop

Encourage the kids to get creative by taking them to the Kids Make-A-Book workshop at Art at Sumner Hub. This fun and creative workshop is for kids aged 8 and over.  They will learn a variety of skills such as painting, stencilling and masking to decorate their own notebook, which they will get to take home with them. The workshop is one from 9.30 to 11.30am and costs $30.

Vegan Night Mākete

If you're peckish and happy to brave the weather, head to Phillipstown Community Hub on Saturday afternoon for the popular Vegan Night Mākete. The market showcases the best local plant-based foods and goods and happesn on the last Saturday of the month, rain or shine. During the winter, the market is open from 3.30 to 7pm.

Learn about life in ancient times

Ever wondered about what life was like for ancient Greeks and Romans? If the weather is wet, why not take the time to explore their myths and legends at the UC Teece Museum’s latest exhibition. It's on in the Christchurch Arts Centre and is open between 11 and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
