Keep boredom at bay this weekend by checking out one of these events.

Tīrama Mai

Brighten up your weekend by heading into the city centre or to New Brighton to check out the lighting installations and projections that make up Tīrama Mai – the city’s newest lighting event.

The lights will be on between 6 and 11pm every night between now and Saturday 10 July.

On Friday night there will be live entertainment in Victoria Square from 5.30pm to 6pm, including kapa hapa and performances by performing arts company Cirko Kali.

There will also be food vendors in Victoria Square and Market Square selling hots drinks and snacks.

Use this online map to check out where the lighting installations are located so you don’t miss any of them.

Winter Encraftment Market

Pioneer Stadium is hosting the Encraftment Winter Market this weekend. Come along and brows more than 100 stalls selling locally made arts and crafts. The doors to the market open each day at 10am and entry is free. There will be a selection of food and coffee vendors outside the market to help ensure you stay fuelled through the day.

Art in the Park Exhibition

With warm weather predicted for the weekend, why not head to the Botanic Gardens for a look at the Art in the Park Exhibition. Local artists Therese Boustead and Sandie Brown have joined forces to present a variety of original artwork in the Botanic Gardens Horticultural Kiosk. The exhibition is open from 10am to 3pm and admission is free.

The Seasons

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons gets reimagined this weekend at the Christchurch Town Hall. Dancers from mixed-ability dance company Jolt will weave together with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to create a highly evocative and memorable performance. There are three performances scheduled over the weekend, with tickets available through Eventfinda.

French film festival

French Film Fest Aotearoa is in full swing with movies screening at Lumiere Cinemas, Academy Gold Cinema and the Christchurch Art Gallery.  If you’re a fan of French cinema, check out the programme.
