Climate change  |  7 Nov 2022

Here in Ōtautahi-Christchurch, many people are working for change: riding their bikes, reducing waste, planting trees, shopping local, running sustainable businesses, or lobbying our leaders.

Important update

Due to illness this event has been postponed until Thursday 24 November.

The event will still be held in the TSB Space, Level 1 of Tūranga, from 6 to 7.30pm.

But at times, it can feel like our city-scale climate actions are stuck in traffic.

Cities are big enough to make a difference, but small enough for concerned citizens to have real impact. Where should we focus our efforts? How are people in other cities joining forces to amplify their actions? How do we grow a climate action city for everyone?

This is part of the Christchurch Conversations, a series of events presented by Te Pūtahi and supported by the Christchurch City Council’s Sustainability Fund to support community projects addressing climate change.

Speakers include Katherine Peet, Associate Proffessor Sacha McMeeking, poet Faumuina Felolini Maria Tafuna’i, Cally O’Neill and Joanna Santa Barbara. The event starts with quickfire presentations, followed by case studies, a panel discussion and some poetry to end the evening.

"The Towards 2030 series of Christchurch Conversations have been awesome, exploring different aspects of our climate challenges. This topic is a biggy,” says Tony Moore, Council Climate Resilience Lead.

“Join us to explore how to mobilise our institutions, businesses, community and ourselves to take climate action at the pace and scale needed to secure our future.”

This event will be held in the TSB Space, Level 1 of Tūranga from 6 to 7.30pm, Tuesday 8 November. Feel free to come along from 5.30pm for a cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat so that you can connect with others.

This is a free community event, but bookings are required. You can join us in person or online. If you have missed any Christchurch Conversations events they are available to view on Te Pūtahi website.

Christchurch Conversations is a partnership between Te Pūtahi, Christchurch City Council and Series Research Partner, The Building Better Homes Towns and Cities: National Science Challenge.
