A pop-up library offering a selection of popular books and free internet access has opened in New Brighton Mall.

The temporary library has been set up to ensure New Brighton residents continue to have access to library services while contractors work on repairing the quake-damaged New Brighton Library.

Christchurch City Council Communities Libraries Manager Erica Rankin says the New Brighton community are incredibly engaged library users and it was important they continued to have easy access to library services.

“The opening of the pop-up library at 60 Brighton Mall means people will still be able to get their library fix during the repairs,” Ms Rankin says.

The pop-up library will have the same opening hours as the New Brighton Library and will continue to offer the popular pre-school sessions. It has eight fee internet computers for people to use.

The New Brighton Library is expected to reopen in early 2017, after repairs to the concrete columns and floors, replacement of the east-facing first floor windows, as well as external painting, new carpet and more.
