Council updates  |  28 Feb 2019

Christchurch City Council has adopted a Suburban Parking Policy.

In most suburban areas of Christchurch there are relatively few issues for residents, businesses and their visitors in finding an on-street park.

However, in some suburban areas there is high demand for parking from both residents, businesses and commuters, which makes it difficult to find a park and puts pressure on road space.

The new Suburban Parking Policy provides a framework for managing the competing demands for road space and parking space and will be used to guide future decisions on suburban car parking.

Heritage Strategy adopted

The Council has adopted a new Heritage Strategy: Our Heritage, Our Taonga.

The strategy is a high-level document that sets out how the Council intends to work in ongoing partnership with Ngāi Tahu and in collaboration with its communities to identify, protect and celebrate heritage.

The strategy presents a broadened view of heritage. It includes the built and natural environment, tangible and intangible heritage, including stories, memories and traditions, and movable heritage.

Ngāi Tahu taonga is acknowledged and integrated, and the heritage of the city’s diverse cultures and distinctive communities is respected and provided for.

Changes approved to Priority Routes Map

The Council today has approved changes to the draft Earthquake-prone Buildings – Priority Routes Map.

The changes are the result of submissions received during consultation and staff recommendations.

The approved changes retain high-pedestrian thoroughfares in the CBD and Hagely Park, remove a section of Wairakei Road from the priority routes map because that part of the road is permanently closed, and removes land in Belfast from Tyrone Street to Main North Road and to the side of the railway from the high-pedestrian areas map.

The high-pedestrian areas and priority routes are identified to ensure roads and footpaths are safe to use and able to be kept open in the event of a moderate to severe earthquake.

Fendalton Service Desk on the move

The Fendalton Service Desk is moving to a temporary site in Fendalton Village while repairs are carried out on the Fendalton Library and Service Centre building.

During that time, the Fendalton Service Desk will operate from the corner of Ilam Road and Clyde Road, from Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm. All of the current services will be available, including postal services.
