Pull on your training shoes and limber up – it’s time to tackle the Burnside Park Fitness Trail.
Funded by the local community, the trail features four fitness stations sited on the park perimeter, including a sit-up bench, push-up bars, stairs, a vertical ladder, a chin-up bar, shoulder wheel, cross trainer, shoulder press and much more.
Board chairperson David Cartwright and Commodore Hotel general manager Michael Patterson try out the new Burnside Park Fitness Trail.
Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board chairperson David Cartwright has underlined the benefits of the new fitness trail.
“The new trail provides local residents with multiple options to improve their fitness and make the most of one of the area’s most popular parks,” Mr Cartwright says.
“Any opportunity to enjoy our wonderful environment as we exercise is time well spent.”
Emulating the popular Hagley Park Fitness Trail, the Burnside Park stations cater to a range of fitness levels.
Already home to multiple sporting groups, Burnside Park – situated between Memorial Avenue and Avonhead Road – also offers easy access.
The trail will be officially opened tomorrow, 30 September, at 11.30am near the squash clubrooms.
The opening, which is part of The Breeze Walking Festival, will include a walk around the park and a demonstration of the four stations, with assistance from Sport Canterbury.
The trail has been funded by the Commodore Hotel, the Rotary Clubs of Avonhead, Bishopdale-Burnside and Riccarton, and the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board.
