English soft-rocker Phil Collins will perform a one-night only concert in Christchurch early next year.
The former Genesis singer and drummer has been rocking stages across the US and Europe as part of his Not Dead Yet: Live! and will perform at Christchurch Stadium (formerly known as AMI Stadium) on 4 February.
Phil Collins will play in Christchurch on 4 February.
Vbase Board Chair Cllr Tim Scandrett says ChristchurchNZ and Vbase have been working hard behind the scenes to secure the concert for Christchurch.
“This is another example of the amazing collaboration going on in our city and we’re very excited to give Christchurch an opportunity to play host to Phil Collins,” Councillor Scandrett says.
One of the most successful artists of the 1980s, Collins has attracted sell-out crowds across the UK and Europe since launching his tour last June.
Collins’ backing band will feature long-time touring members including guitarist Daryl Stuermer, keyboardist Brad Cole, bassist Leland Sklar and percussionist Luis Conte, along with a horn selection and backup vocalists. Phil Collins’ 16-year old son, Nicolas, will round up the band on drums.
With over 280 million records sold, in a career spanning almost 50 years as a solo artist and a member of Genesis, Phil Collins is a generational icon and cultural legend. Not Dead Yet: Live!, titled after Phil Collins’ 2016 memoir of the same name, is a celebration of his life’s work.
Tickets for his concert will go on sale at Wednesday 5 September from 10am and are available through Ticketek.
ChristchurchNZ General Manager of Destination and Attraction, Loren Heaphy, is “stoked that Collins has chosen to play in Christchurch.
“He certainly won’t be disappointed – we’re expecting a sell-out crowd of die-hard fans and our city will be pumping with local and national visitors,” Ms Heaphy says.
