With a contractor appointed to deliver Linwood’s much anticipated $22 million pool, design has moved into the next stage and the community can expect to see action onsite in July.

Local company Apollo Projects will again oversee the construction of Christchurch’s latest pool complex, Te Pou Toetoe: Linwood Pool, following the successful delivery of the Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre in 2018.

Apollo Projects has also been the lead contractor on the foreshore hot pools – He Puna Taimoana – in New Brighton.

An official sod-turning ceremony will be held ahead of work starting on the Te Pou Toetoe: Linwood Pool project in Linwood Park on the corner of Linwood Avenue and Smith Street.

Waikura/Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board Chairperson Sally Buck says the new pool project is on track to make a 2021-22 summer splash.

“Apollo Projects has already delivered a first-class facility in the east and is well-placed to bring the Linwood Pool design to life,” Ms Buck says.

“From day one, Te Pou Toetoe: Linwood Pool has been a community-driven project, with input from people of all ages throughout the Linwood and Woolston area.

“Their vision is a big step closer to being realised.”

Local residents will be able to make the most of a multi-use 25-metre lane pool, a deep-water pool for “bombing”, a family spa pool, learn to swim pool, and a pool for toddlers and water deck.

Community meeting rooms and a kitchen will also be available. The outdoor community space at Te Pou Toetoe features a gathering area, picnic tables, tennis and multi-use courts, cycle stands, parking and plenty of open areas for all ages to enjoy.
