Christchurch City Council is closing all its boat ramps around Christchurch and in Lyttelton and Akaroa Harbours while the country is in Alert Level 4.

This follows the Government advice that people are not to go boating, surfing or swimming during the lockdown period.

“People are being asked to stick to simple outdoor exercise close to home, and avoid activities where you could get injured or lost,” says the Council’s Head of Parks Andrew Rutledge.

“This is to keep our emergency services free to support the COVID-19 response. So we’re closing off all Council-owned boat ramps ahead of the Easter weekend to help keep everyone safe.”
