How can medium-density housing be done well, so that it remains affordable, sustainable, and improves our wellbeing, connections and community spirit?

The next Christchurch Conversation event will take a closer look at the issue of medium-density housing, and how this can be done well, and with the future in mind.

Presented by Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City Making, the Reaching a happy medium in urban housing event will be held on Tuesday 17 October from 6-7:30pm at Tūranga’s TSB Space.

Te Pūtahi Director Jessica Halliday says with more medium-density housing on the horizon for Christchurch, it’s an issue that is close to the hearts of many people.

“We want to explore the issue with a range of speakers,” says Ms Halliday.

“Our speakers include people already living in medium-density housing, as well as experts. They will give us their take on how we can make it work for us, our city and the living systems that surround us.”

The speakers include a leading expert in medium-density housing, Guy Marriage, Kāinga Maha general manager Annie Wilson, the Council’s head of transport and waste Lynette Ellis, and poet Ben O’Connell.

Each speaker will explore different elements of the topic, and how the city can effectively transition to new ways of living.

You can register to participate either in person or online.

Christchurch Conversations 2023 is funded through the Christchurch City Council’s Sustainability Fund and supported by He Puna ORA Regenerative Action-Lab at AUT.
