Structural repairs and safety maintenance work are about to begin on Akaroa’s wharf.
Fulton Hogan will carry out the work, which will take about a month to complete.
The Akaroa wharf dates back to 1887 and is coming to the end of its useful life.
Christchurch City Council has approved a concept design for a replacement wharf and plans to get construction under way in 2024, with the aim of having the new wharf completed by the middle of 2025.
In the meantime, it needs to keep up maintenance and repairs on the existing wharf so the public and commercial operators can safely continue to use it.
Public access to the wharf will be maintained while the repair and maintenance work is done. The contractors will be working Monday to Saturday between 7am and 6pm. Some on street parking on Beach Road will be restricted for safety reasons.
