The ASB Christchurch Marathon is being held on Sunday 3 June and while road closures are planned, the CBD will be open for business.
“Our vibrant city centre is open for business so plan your trip into town and come support the ASB Christchurch Marathon,” says ChristchurchNZ General Manager of Attraction Linda Falwasser.
The ASB Christchurch Marathon will be run on Sunday 3 June.
Race time is 8am and widespread travel disruption is to be expected. There will be traffic restrictions in place from 5am until 2pm with no vehicle travel across the city.
Motorists are encouraged to use the arterial roads to go around the city and people are encouraged to consider cycling, walking or taking public transport into town.
Ms Falwasser says the marathon is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to reconnect with the central city over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
“Bars and restaurants along the new Terrace complex are offering some awesome food and beverage deals to racegoers and their supporters, so come into town and be part of the ASB Christchurch Marathon,” she says.
“We’re encouraging people to come into town early and enjoy some of the awesome marathon-themed hospitality deals and cheer on the participants.”
Renowned as one of the world’s fastest tracks, the ASB Christchurch Marathon caters for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels with a Full, Half, 10km and kids Mara’Fun, taking participants on a scenic route around iconic city landmarks such as Cathedral Square, Hagley Park, the Avon River and the Red Zone.
Several thousand runners will tackle the full marathon, half marathon and 10 kilometre courses which wind their way through the city centre and eastern suburbs.
The ASB Christchurch Marathon is one of Christchurch’s largest and most popular events, so plan your travel well in advance.
