A proposed landscape plan for a popular park by the sea in Ferrymead has been released for public feedback.

The draft plan for Scott Park has been put together by local community organisations, working together to improve the area.

These include yachting, wind sports, sea scouts, and residents groups, along with the Christchurch Coastal Pathway Group, the Estuary Trust and the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board.

If approved by the Community Board, the proposed plan will be implemented in stages as funding becomes available.

Changes are on the horizon for Scott Park.

Changes are on the horizon for Scott Park.

It features native trees for shelter and shade, sealed parking areas for cars and boats, an established picnic area and improved access to the beach and boat ramps.

Christchurch City Council Head of Parks Andrew Rutledge says the proposed plan will regenerate and enhance one of the area’s most popular parks, improving water access.

“Scott Park already meets multiple community needs, particularly with regard to recreational water activities, but we want to ensure that the area is well-placed to meet future use,” Mr Rutledge says.

“Among the staged developments are the extension of the beach area to the public ramp, and steps to improve the views and security, along with more open grassed areas,” he says.

“A proposed site for a permanent toilet and shower facilities, along with a storage area, is part of the longer-term plan, once funding is available.”

The four-week consultation period opens on Monday 11 February and closes on Monday 11 March.
