The Winter Fireworks Spectacular is set for Saturday 9 July, just in time for the start of the winter school holidays.

The fireworks display, which is organised by Christchurch City Council, will take place in New Brighton.

Events and Arts Manager Lucy Blackmore says there’s lots in store to make it a great evening out for the whole family.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to visit New Brighton, grab something to eat and drink from local businesses and enjoy an evening of great entertainment,” Ms Blackmore says.

The event gets underway from 5:30pm, with a fun line up of live entertainment, ahead of the grand finale fireworks display going off at 7:00pm from the pier.

This year’s fireworks display will last around 13 minutes and will be accompanied by a soundtrack of modern Kiwi classics

“If you’re planning to watch the fireworks from further up the beach, you can tune in to The Hits radio station 97.7FM to hear the soundtrack that will be playing in sync with the fireworks,” says Ms Blackmore.

There will be a park and ride bus service running from Eastgate Mall to New Brighton between 4:30pm – 6:30pm, with return rides from 7:30pm – 9:30pm.

“We’re expecting a lot of visitors to the area, so if you live around New Brighton, we recommend walking, biking or carpooling to the event,” Ms Blackmore says.

The event will be postponed until Sunday 10 July in case of bad weather.
