Events and activities for tamariki of all ages will be on across the libraries network this summer – check out what’s in store.
Kick off summer and complete challenges to win prizes with the Summertime Reading Challenge, open from 1 December to 31 January.
Celebrate the festive season with Christmas themed events including the Sending Love, Christmas Ornament Workshops and Mini Christmas Tree Decorating Workshops sessions across the network, and Crafting cards with Ron Te Kawa and Elves on the Shelves at Tūranga.
Join Christchurch City Libraries at the Council Summer Pool Parties at Jellie Park on 8 February, and Waltham Pool on 12 January. Have fun in the red zone with Parks staff at Dallington Landing on 28 January and Brooker Ave forest and playground on 21 January, and borrow a book from the red zone book-nook throughout the last two weeks of January.
Pick up a dragon-themed story bag to take part in the Day of Dragons series at Shirley Library, and head down to Shirley Library on 17 January to celebrate “Appreciate a Dragon Day” with a series of dragon-themed activities.
Enjoy the summer sunshine with Stories in the Park at Redwood Park on 18 January and Picnic in the Park at Barrington Park on 24 January.
Tell our staff what you like to read and let them curate you book bag these holidays, have a summer adventure at Riccarton House on 22 January, and bring your young tamariki to Tūranga on 23 January for Music with Michal.
Welcome the Year of the Snake at Lunar New Year celebrations from 1 – 15 February, with activities including shadow puppet storytelling and Chinese Chess at Tūranga, lion dance workshops and family celebrations at Upper Riccarton Library, bedtime stories at Fendalton Library and lion dance storytelling at Shirley Library.
