From the roof cladding to the premium hospitality spaces, Christchurch’s new stadium build is swiftly coming together.
In a video released today, Christchurch City Council Project Director Kent Summerfield provides an overview of progress on the $683 million project.
“The team on site continue to move along at great pace and, in the southern area, we’re now well advanced with the roof and façade cladding,” says Mr Summerfield.
Crews are also installing the stairs in the south stand, which backs onto Tuam Street.
“We’ve decommissioned several of our large cranes and the hydraulic support towers will be deconstructed over the next month,” says Mr Summerfield.
Since the stadium’s steel superstructure was completed in late January, the large cranes and temporary roof support structures are no longer required.
The video also offers a look inside the function lounge, on level one of the west stand.
“This is a large space capable of hosting almost 900 people,” says Mr Summerfield.
The lounge can be divided in two by an operable wall and features a kitchen and bar area in each space.
“All the flooring is down, framing and the glazing in, and the fit out for the kitchen and bar areas well advanced,” says Mr Summerfield.
The hospitality areas also have access to a balcony space with uninterrupted views of the field of play.
Similarly, the premium general admission area on the third floor is also getting the fit-out treatment.
“Alongside the great views, this area will also have dedicated services including a feature bar,” says Mr Summerfield.
The venue will include the large function lounge, 23 corporate suites, 32 food and beverage outlets, and has a capacity of 30,000 for sports matches and at least 36,000 for concerts.
“The excellent progress the team has made over the last month means that we’re on target for an opening in April 2026 and the project remains on budget,” says Mr Summerfield.
