It's good news for Templeton residents – the outdoor community pool will be open for longer this summer, thanks to a new membership system.

Templeton Pool on Kirk Road will be open from 16 November 2019 until 29 March 2020. Members will be able to access the pool between the hours of 7am and 8pm every day of the week, with casual users still able to use the facility when they are with a member.

An honesty box will be in place for casual users, with a suggested rate of $2.50 per adult and $2 per child.

“We hope the community will get in behind the membership system and make good use of the pool this summer, especially as we have installed a new heat pump that should raise the temperature from previous years. There’s nothing more fun than making a splash with friends and family,” Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation, Sports and Events Nigel Cox says.

Life guards will be at the pool from 7am until 9am daily to run mandatory 30 minute safety inductions for all key holders, sell memberships and carry out necessary cleaning and maintenance.

Previously the pool has only been open for 11 weeks over the summer but this year it will be open for 19 weeks. It will again be utilised by Templeton Primary School during the first term of next year.

Council has five outdoor pools in Christchurch, with a similar membership system already in place in Lyttelton.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Templeton community to ensure this well-loved pool remains accessible for residents,” Mr Cox says.

Keys for Templeton Pool can be purchased for $80 from 16 November 2019 until 7 February 2020, from the pool site, between 7am and 9am.
