Redwood Library will close for a month to allow for repair work and minor refurbishment.
The library in Main North Road will be closed from Monday 29 July during the site upgrade, which will include installing a new heating and ventilation system, roof repairs and general refurbishment.
It is scheduled to reopen on Monday, 26 August.
During the closure, a mobile library vehicle will visit the library car park for one hour on Wednesdays (10am to 11am) and Fridays (3pm to 4pm).
Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says several city libraries have been undergoing renewal work and Redwood Library is the next to benefit.
“It’s important that we continue to revitalise our libraries and deliver a welcoming, warm and accessible space for library lovers,” Ms Robertson says.
Library staff will be temporarily reassigned to other city libraries.
From 29 July, any hold items requested for pick-up at Redwood Library will instead be available at Papanui Library in Langdons Road, unless another site is requested.
Items cannot be returned to Redwood Library during the closure period. However, items can be left at Council libraries around the city and on Banks Peninsula.
Wi-Fi will also not be available at Redwood Library.
For anyone wanting to visit another library, the nearest alternatives are Papanui Library in Langdons Road, Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Library and Community Centre in Farrington Avenue and Fendalton Library on the corner of Jeffreys Road and Clyde Road.
