Upper Riccarton Library and Red Café will shortly be closing for three weeks while repair and refurbishment work takes place.
The library and café on Main South Road will be closed from Tuesday 11 April until Sunday 30 April as work to replace the bathrooms and upgrade the air conditioning, lighting systems and paintwork takes place. The doors to the learning centre will also be replaced.
The upgrade has been planned to coincide with the Riccarton High School holidays, however some work will continue into the first week of the school term.
The school, which timetables some classes into the library learning centre, has reallocated these to accommodate the work.
“We have a rolling programme of renewal work across our libraries network and Upper Riccarton is the latest to benefit from this,” says Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information, Carolyn Robertson.
“It’s important that we maintain our libraries to a high standard so they remain comfortable and welcoming spaces for the public to enjoy.”
Red Café operates under a separate lease but will be utilising the closure period to upgrade the café service area.
During the three week closure, reserved items will be made available to collect from Fendalton Library unless otherwise requested. Items cannot be returned to Upper Riccarton Library during this period, but can be returned to any other library across the city network.
The mobile library will visit Upper Riccarton Tuesdays 10.30am–11.30am and Fridays 3.30pm–4.30pm throughout the closure period. For those wanting to find the nearest alternatives, they are Fendalton Library on the corner of Jeffreys Road and Clyde Road and Hornby Library on Goulding Avenue.
