Kite Day 2024
Kite Day, supported by The Hits returns to New Brighton Beach to brighten the skies of the seaside suburb. Come fly with us at New Brighton Pier from 11am to 3pm Saturday, lap up the sunshine and take in the spectacular view of the sky lit up with colourful kites. No kite? No problem – The Kite Shop and Youth Alive Trust will be selling kits on the day. Please note dogs are not permitted in kite-flying areas.
Summer outdoor movies
Grab your whānau, pack a picnic and come along for a fun night out at the final weekend of The Arts Centre’s Summer outdoor movie series. This Saturday enjoy Robots (2005) from 5pm – 7pm, followed by Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (2022) from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. On Sunday, kick back and check out Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) from 5pm – 7pm, before American Made (2017) from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. For ultimate comfort make sure to bring something to sit on. Rugs are to be used on grassed areas and chairs can be used on paved surfaces. An entry koha of $5 is appreciated.
2024 BMXNZ South Island Titles
Christchurch City BMX Club are hosting over 350 of the top BMX riders from Aotearoa and Australia in an action-packed weekend of riding. Riders aged four to seventy-four are descending on Christchurch for the 2024 BMXNZ South Island Titles at Isobel Hooper Raceway, Kyle Park, Hornby. Racing will start at 11am Saturday and 10am Sunday, more information here.
Live at the Point
Live at the Point’s Sunday music sessions are back for 2024. Head over to Diamond Harbour for an afternoon of music in the grounds of the former Godley House. Come on down down for lunch on the field and stay and listen to the free live music, underway from 1pm – 5pm Sunday. Musicians performing this weekend are Voelas Rollers, DJ Drummie Dan, Isabelle Wolfe, the Swan Sisters and Al P and his P.A.L’s.
Anthony Harper Summer Theatre presents The Odyssey
Anthony Harper Summer Theatre’s The Odyssey is underway, staged at the Botanic Gardens’ Weather Station Lawn each night until 28 January. The comedy is a take on a piece of western literature, Odyssey, by ancient poet Homer. Enjoy the free performance from 6:30pm – 9pm each evening this weekend, with afternoon sessions from 2:30pm – 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
