From markets to Tai Chi and Tirama Mai – check out what’s on near you this weekend

Tīrama Mai 

It’s the last weekend of the Tīrama Mai lighting festival which will run until Sunday 3 July. The free event features a series of illuminated artworks, dazzling light displays and live performances set up around the central city. Check out the interactive map of installations and start planning your route around the city.

Star Media Home and Leisure Show

The Star Media Home and Leisure Show is a three-day expo at Christchurch Arena from 1 July to 3 July showcasing the latest trends, products and services for your home and lifestyle. With major prizes up for grabs, free informative seminars, tiny homes on display and our unique zones; Taste, Eco, Outdoor Living and Tiny Home Big Impact - you won't want to miss this exciting three-day event. Prices start from $8, and will be available at the door.

Winter Encraftment Market

Come along to Canterbury’s freshest craft and design market this Saturday and Sunday at Pioneer Recreation & Sport Centre from 10am to 3pm. There will be over 120 stalls showing casing premium products, all of which are designed and produced by the stallholder. There will also be a food court area available. Entry is free.

Tai Chi and Calligraphy

Celebrate Matariki this weekened at Turanga library. Watch Tianlong Cao give an impressive display of Tai Chi, while a calligrapher's beautiful flourishes are beamed up to a big screen behind Mr Cao. After this performance, Mr Cao will also perform an easy Tai Chi routine and invite library customers to follow his moves. The performance will be in Tautoru, Tūranga's TSB Space on Saturday from 1.30pm to 2pm and is free to everyone.

Northern Community Market

From handmade crafts and homewares to plants and food, come along to Christchurch's newest market this Saturday between 9am and 2pm. The Northern Community Market has been created by a local group of residents that wanted to bring something new to the northern part of Christchurch and also show off what they make and give other locals the same opportunity to do the same. The free event is held at Redwood Hotel Grounds at 340 Main North Road.

Inflatable fun at Taiora EQII

Rush, jump, slip, slide, biff and bash your way through our inflatable obstacle course this Sunday at Taiora: QEII Recreation and Sport Centre from 2pm to 4pm. General pool admission prices apply.
