Christchurch Heritage Festival 2024

We’re halfway through the Christchurch Heritage Festival 2024 – check out what’s underway this weekend!

On Saturday, experience the work of one of Canterbury’s leading architects at The Christchurch Club open day, visit the Kohinga Māra Community Garden and learn about its history and purpose, and listen to a talk about Kate Sheppard and her travels at a Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House.

On Sunday, join a guided tour of the Observatory Tower, have a go at model yacht sailing, and find out more about the great leisure activity family history can be. The festival runs to 28 October, view all the walks, talks, open days, exhibitions and more on What’s On.

Spring in the Rotunda

Head down to the Bandsman’s Memorial Rotunda at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday for a free concert from New Brighton Silver Band. Come along at 1.30pm for some afternoon entertainment with great toe tapping tunes.

Trains Night Run

Bring the family down to McLeans Island on Saturday evening for rides on the miniature trains and full-sized Bush railway! Have a ride for just $2, and grab a bite to eat from the food trucks for dinner.

McLeans Island Miniature Trains is located at 621 McLeans Island Road. Come along from 4 – 8pm Saturday.

Plantarama

Come along to the Annual Plant Sale at Cashmere Presbyterian Church and stock up for your garden – whether you’re after plants for the veggie garden or the flower beds, or to enjoy a sausage sizzle!

Check out the free Plantarama sale from 9am – midday Saturday. The Church is located at 2 MacMillan Avenue, Cashmere.

Governors Bay Fete

Get ready for another fantastic Governors Bay Fete this Sunday from 11am – 3pm at the Allandale Domain. The Fete will have stalls galore (new and old), music, fun for the kids, food and other attractions.

This year’s Fete is raising money for the Volunteer Fire Brigade, entry is by gold coin donation. Stall space is limited but if you wish to have a stall at this year’s event email govbayfete@gmail.com.
