Enjoy a weekend packed with markets, music and Lunar New Year celebrations.

Garden City Mākete

Come along to the Garden City Mākete at The Arts Centre this Saturday and explore over 130 local designers, artisans and entrepreneurs offering pottery, fashion, art and more. There will be plenty of food trucks, face painting and characters for your tamariki, and live performances throughout the day. The market will run from 10am – 4pm, optional koha on entry (gold coin donation).

Happy Chinese New Year Festival 2024

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Happy Chinese New Year Festival this weekend. Enjoy a fun-filled with celebrations of lanterns, live shows, food stalls, fireworks and more. Head down to the Entertainment Triangle at North Hagley Park from 6 – 10pm Friday, 11am – 9:30pm Saturday and 11am – 8:30pm Sunday to get involved in the celebrations.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Christchurch City Libraries

Christchurch City Libraries are hosting a variety of fun and festive activities and events from 10 to 24 February to celebrate the Chinese New Year, with a range of events taking place this weekend. The key event for this year’s celebrations is the spectacular display of colours, costumes, music and performances from 1 – 4pm Saturday at Tūranga. Also on Saturday, learn how to fold and make Chinese dumplings at Tūranga with two demonstration workshops. Read more about the Lunar New Year events at Christchurch City Libraries here.

Super Sprint

Bringing New Zealand Championship motor racing back to life – Round 5 of the Super Sprint NZ Motorsport Championship moves to Ōtautahi Christchurch this weekend to take on the impressive Euromarque Motorsport Park. Round 5 of the Super Sprint NZ Championship will feature Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship, Toyota 86 New Zealand Championship, Summerset GT New Zealand Championship, TA2 Trans-Tasman, Mazda Racing Series and NZ Formula Ford. Festival of Women and Girls in Science

Experience interactive activities, discover the excitement of taking part in scientific research, and understand the important contribution that women make to science at the Festival of Women and Girls in Science this Sunday. The day will have a particular focus on activities for girls aged 10 to 18 and their families, with an objective to facilitate the involvement of women and girls in STEM. The free Festival will take place from 10am – 3pm Sunday at Tūranga.

Summer Sundays – Emerging Indie

Third up in our Summer Sunday’s programme is Emerging Indie! Enjoy free live music at Archery Lawn from 2 – 4pm Sunday. Listen to indie-rock outfit Spirit Boy, modern rock band Con Carne, and indie artist Mim Jensen. Picnic food, drinks and chairs are welcome. More information here.
